New name, new domain, new look

While one day browsing blogs I noticed a question posed by Book Bloggers Hop which started me thinking, not always a good thing especially if you ask my technical support person. :-) The question: Do you ever wish you would have named your blog something different? The (very short) answer: You betcha. The Printed Page was a name I came up with simply to get a blog going years ago. I’ve never really been vested in the name so change comes easily. Easily for me but pity my poor tech support person. One day I promise to leave things ‘as is’ and peace will again reign in his life.

I really wanted something that’s a lot more ‘me’. And nothing is more descriptive of ‘me’ than A girl and her books. The new domain is agirlandherbooks. If you visit right now there’s this ugly placeholder page – ignore it. A new name and home calls for some remodeling and change of address. So here’s a sneak peek at the new theme. The move date is tentatively set for Saturday, 3.26. There is also a new email address: agirlandherbooks [at] printedpage [dot] us. I will be updating TPP as the move progresses. If you’d like to update feeds, readers, blog rolls please do so.

  • I remember spending days trying to find a good name for my blog. Sometimes I wonder if I could have thought of a better one, but mostly I think about changing to self-hosting. Some day… Can’t wait to see the entire new look when you have the site up!

    • I love self-hosting as it opens up a whole new world of options for a blogger. Even this time when trying out names I found myself working with catchy, clever, or cute – all taken. I found when I stepped back and got down to basics that the name I really wanted wasn’t take even as a .com. I thought sure it would have been long gone by now because it’s so simple yet descriptive of many book bloggers out there.

  • It’s so hard to come up with a name for a blog, but I think you’ve found the perfect one! I love the new header and will update my Reader now.

  • Love the new name! And the header looks amazing! I’m so bad at coming up with names and I wish I would have been bit more creative but oh well.

    • I think naming a blog can be most frustrating. I remember running through all sorts of clever ideas that were already taken, even some with creative naming conventions, just to come up with The Printed Page. So imagine my total surprise this time around when my new name, which is pretty simple and straightforward, was available as a .com. I thought sure it would be long gone with all the book blogs out there. Or maybe it’s someone else’s defunct blog name and I just got lucky to grab it when I did.

  • Lee:

I’m the above-mentioned tech support person. I’m also her brother, and I know her too well. Things will never be left “as-is.” Pity me.

(But the new name and theme are way cool. Good taste, Marcia! Hey guys, look at that, that’s my little sister!)

    • Well you never know. :-) Maybe ‘as-is’ is right around the corner. I’m so excited for next Saturday when we migrate the blogs and put up the new themes. And the new theme for A girl and her books has changed. While I and you all seem to like the original I came up with I found a beautiful piece of artwork and got permission to use it. I’m keeping it under wraps until I move.
