Mailbox Monday ~ October 19th

Yes you’re see things – Mailbox Monday is posted waaaaaaaaay early. Last week Renee suggested using Mister Linky so that visiting each others posts is easier and I’m all for easier. Because I’ve never used Mister Linky before and wanted to have time to work out any possible kinks before Monday I’ve posted my MM now. If you want to post early feel free to do so.
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week (checked out library books don’t count, eBooks & audio books do). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
If you’re new to Mailbox Monday welcome! Thank you to everyone who stops by Mailbox Monday. Whether you comment or visit I appreciate your taking the time to drop in.
One of my vacation traditions is buying books to read while we’re lounging on the beach or by the pool. So I’ve gone on a major book buying spree as we’re leaving next month on our annual winter vaca. Though my hubby did remind that isn’t our typical two weeks in Mexico and when in heavens name did I think I’d have time to read?! Oh well I’m still buying and there’s no stopping me. Here’s hoping I get in a chapter a day. I’ll be posting my goodies right up until we leave. They’re all Kindle books and not available for Read It Forward, sorry gang.

Breakneck by Erica Spindler (Kindle eBook – not available for Read It Forward)

Detective MC Riggio can’t wait to get married. She is desperately in love with her fiance Dan, and is counting down the days until the wedding. Best of all, her big Italian family have welcomed Dan with open arms, her mother ecstatic at the thought of more grandchildren. But MC never does marry Dan or have his children. A few weeks before the wedding day he is shot dead ? and MC’s world crumbles into pieces. Detective Kitt Lundgren is there to support her colleague. She knows grief only too well ? her only daughter has recently died ? and she knows that MC’s only concern now will be to find out who killed her fiance. So the two women work day and night to discover what happened to Dan. But there is a ruthless killer on the loose, a killer who knows no fear. And Kitt and MC have put themselves right in the firing line…
Pursuit of Honor by Vince Flynn (Kindle eBook – not available for Read It Forward)

Rapp had traveled to New York City to decide the fate of a man. He had debated the wisdom of handling it himself. In addition to the inherent risk of getting caught, there was another, more pressing, problem. Just six days earlier a series of explosions had torn through Washington D.C., killing 185 and wounding hundreds. Three of the terrorists were still at large, and Rapp had been unofficially ordered to find them by any means necessary. So far, however, the investigation had been painfully complicated and had yet to yield a single solid lead. The three men had up and disappeared, which suggested a level of sophistication that few of them thought the enemy capable of. The last thing Rapp expected, though, was that he would still be dealing with this other issue. In light of the attacks in Washington, he thought the fool would have come to his senses.
The Calligrapher’s Daughter by Eugenia Kim (Kindle eBook – not available for Read It Forward)

This debut novel, inspired by the life of the author’s Korean mother, is a beautiful, deliberate and satisfying story spanning 30 years of Korean history. The tradition-bound aristocratic calligrapher Han refuses to name his daughter because she is born just as the Japanese occupy Korea early in the 20th century. When Han finds a husband for Najin (nicknamed after her mother’s birthplace) at 14, her mother objects and instead sends her to the court of the doomed royal Yi family to learn refinement. Najin goes to college and becomes a teacher, proving herself not only as a scholar but as a patriot and humanitarian. She returns home to marry, but her new husband goes without her to study in America when she is denied a visa. As the Japanese systematically obliterate ancient Korean culture and the political climate worsens, so do Najin’s fortunes. Her family is reduced to poverty, their home is seized and Najin is imprisoned as a spy while WWII escalates.

I like the Mr. Linky-I will be curious to hear your thoughts on The Calligrapher’s Daughter.
The Calligrapher’s Daughter sounds interesting!
never heard Mr Linky before…
You’ve been having loads of fun buying books for your Kindle! I’m anxious to see what you think of The Calligrapher’s Daughter.
I too like Mr. Linky! Thanks for hosting.

Sounds like you have some good reads there! Enjoy.
Hi Marcia
Mr Linky could be a good idea, I like it.
You may be buying a lot, but on the plus side, you won’t have to carry a lot thanks to the Kindle.
The Calligrapher’s Daughter looks really good.
One of the reasons I love my Kindle. Now my hubby doesn’t have to stress that we’ll get hit with heavy baggage fees.
I agree with the people above, the Calligrapher’s Daughter looks good. Mr. Linky is pretty awesome as well.
I like the use of Mr. linky…and the Calligrapher’s Daughter has received some great reviews so far. I hope you enjoy your books.
I haven’t read any Vince Flynn books. Is that a go-to author for you?
Yay, Mr. Linky : )
Vince Flynn is an auto buy author for me. I just love Mitch Rapp.
Break Neck sounds like an excellent read, quite emotional too. Hope you enjoy The Calligraphers Daughter. I’m a Mr Linky fan
The Erica Spindler book looks good – I have always wanted to read one by her.
This is my first Mailbox Monday. Thanks for hosting it. I totally understand about buying books to read on vacation. What kind of vacation would it be without brand new books! The Calligrapher’s Daughter sounds like a compelling read. Enjoy your time off with hubby.
Calligrapher’s Daughter also caught my eye! Glad you are liking your kindle! Mr Linky is simpler, good idea!
Here’s mine. Finances are making book buying hard.

I budget for vacation book buying throughout the year and then go on my spree right before we leave town.
I’ve never used Mr. Linky before, but I think I filled it out right.
Having spent the weekend in NYC & living in the DC area I think Pursuit of Honor looks like an especially good read. Enjoy your books & your wonderful sounding vacay!
Here is my Monday post: http://metroreader.blogspot.com/2009/10/mailbox-monday-october-19th.html
Looks like a good batch. I like having Mr. Linky, too.
Some good ones to look forward to!!
Happy Reading!
Mr. Linky always seems a little sterile to me. But it is definitely convenient for finding other peoples’ posts.
My hubby went out and got a copy of Vince Flynn’s newest last week too. Vince Flynn is one of his favorite authors.
great use of mr linky. I think it’s much better
doesn’t mean I’m not going to stop commenting on the post though
Looks like you received some great books last week.
I’ve heard wonderful things about Cleopatra’s Daughter and can’t wait to read it.
Here’s my Mailbox! ~ Wendi
I like the use of Mr. Linky though I’m a chronic commentor so that won’t stop either
Oops! I put in the wrong link first time around. Second ‘Alita’ has the right link.
I do like the addition of Mr. Linky, though. Now if only I knew how to use it :p
The Calligrapher’s Daughter sounds really interesting. I hope you enjoy it!
I like Mr. Linky. It makes life easy! I read The Calligrapher’s Daughter and enjoyed it very much. I hope you do too. Have a great week!
Looks like you received some good books! The Calligrapher’s Daughter sure caught my eye!
Great list of books. I’ve been wanting to read The Calligrapher’s Daughter. I don’t own a Kindle, I’ve been debating whether to buy one or not, I’ve heard so many mixed reviews.
I’m a bit biased if you want a Kindle opinion because I truly love mine but then I’ve never been tied to having to read a print edition book. Amazon does have a See a Kindle in your city program.
You posted this so early that I assumed this was last week’s edition, which is why it’s taken me so long to leave my link!
Enjoy your books!
Sorry ’bout that. I posted way early in case there were Linky issues. With my crazy work schedule I didn’t want any hitches to pop up that I wouldn’t have time to fix and keep the posting from going smoothly.
