I need a Bookation!

summerreading1
I need a Bookation! It’s been a struggle so far this month to keep my reading batteries fully charged. I’m DNFing and not enjoying books that would usually interest me. I’ve decided a break is what I need to get over this major reading slump. Sadly favorite authors, series and genres have been sitting neglected on my bookshelves for months due to other reading commitments. Don’t get me wrong I love that publicists and authors offer me books but sometimes it can be overwhelming. So September is Bookation month here at The Printed Page. It will be filled with guilt-free, self-indulgent, pure pleasure reading. Bodice rippers, beach reads, dark mystery and gory thrills. No more staring at the bookshelves battling desire vs. commitment.  Instead I’m going simply pick up whatever interests me. I get giddy just thinking about it.

Need a reading battery re-charge? If so why not join me in September for a Bookation.

  • Sounds like the perfect thing to do in September. The weather will be getting cooler and reading will feel oh, so cozy. I hope this recharges your batteries!

This is a great idea, but I do have several commitments in September. I just might “borrow” your idea for another month, though.

Whatever it takes to keep something fun from becoming a chore! I hate turning down books, too, but I’m slowly learning not to overcommit myself. Sometimes I wish I were a speed reader; other times I’m glad I get to linger with a particular book. Hope September recharges you and brings you whatever YOU need.

    You go for it!

I love the idea but I have tons of reading challenges to complete for this year and I have a list that I created for myself to make sure that I read books in my TBR pile. I might save your idea and use it in January (if i can remember).

Great Idea. I think I will do it for Nov since I have a few commitments till Oct. I was thinking the same thing. I hate lists and deadlines sometimes. I need a break from it.

  • Diane says:

Marcia….I know exactly what you mean. You should make this a challange September Bookation LOL READ ONLY what you feel like reading — guilt free..

  • Sandra says:

I want to do the same soooo badly. I’m finding some really good things on my shelves I’d forgotten I owned because it’s been too long since I acquired them. But I’ve been ill for a few months and LibraryThing is on my case about the reviews I owe them. I hope you really do it. Maybe you could start a club or a Free to Read challenge for others who do it. Enjoy your month!

Funny you posted this. For awhile now, I’ve been thinking about taking a library break and reading my purchased, but still unread books. I thought September would be the month to do this, but I have too many checked out to attempt this now. (Most of the books I have checked out, I’ve been on the wait list for awhile and of course they all came available at once before I had the chance to “suspend” them – isn’t that how it is?)
I’m thinking October may be best for me. I do like your idea though (love the title!)

I’d love to join you but I’ve said yes to several books that need to be reviewed in Sep. I know what you mean about review books, tho. Sometime last year I had decided to not take any new review books ever. As the emails come and the descriptions sound so enticing it’s not easy to say no, but I have kept the number of review books manageable. Until last month when I accepted more than I should have. So Aug & Sep are going to be commitment months for me. I am reading one of my shelves right now that’s purely for fun.

I think this is what I have been feeling all month. Only for me, it isn’t review books I am feeling tied to, it is the challenges I joined. I really hate not finishing them, and the books I have chosen for them are all books I do want to read, but there are so many new ones that have come out! Hope you have a great month!!

What a great idea! I’ve been doing that a bit myself but on a smaller scale. I haven’t had much chance to get to books I’ve won and my library books so lately I’ve been reading a “fun” book every other time. It’s made it much more enjoyable but I’m a little bit behind. I really needed it though. The pressure can take all the fun out of it even if it’s a good book. That’s why I didn’t join any challenges this year. I knew it would be too much for now. Good for you and enjoy September! I look forward to hearing all about it!

  • Carol says:

Sounds like an awesome idea. I’m already passing on two of my book club books in September so I can read things I want to.

  • Elizabeth says:

Good for you!! Have fun. =)

I think commitments sometimes take awau from the joy of reading, especially if you end up in a run of crappy/uninteresting books. Good luck with your bookcation :)
