I saw the movie years ago when I was living overseas. I was a teenaged girl and thought that the movie was terribly romantic and hauntingly beautiful. Of course, years later
I had to pick up the book as well. I have to say that the book didn’t strike me as being nearly so wonderful as the movie.

It gets so much better once he gets to 1896. It starts reading like a story. I stayed up way late one night reading.

Oh no! Boy, my book choosing skills are bust, huh? I’m actually enjoying this one so far – the narration is different, but hasn’t bothered me. I’ve just read to the point where he makes it to 1896, and I feel like it’s a good stopping point, so I’m gonna do my first post. I hope it gets better for you!

Oh, I’d like to read this! I loved the movie- it’s one of the few that’s ever made me cry- and I had no idea it was a book first. I’m glad to know.
