Look at me … I’m a theme designer

** Due to spamming commenting is closed on this post 5/09/09 **

Now that I can play with WP themes I bought a design program today, Artisteer, and took my very 1st stab at designing my own site. The theme you’re seeing is mine, all mine. It was a lot of fun and didn’t really take a lot of time. So should it stay or should it go? Don’t be afraid to let me know what you think after all you have to look at it every time you stop by. :-)

Now that I have skills (LOL) don’t be surprised at what you next see next!

Actually I’ve started on my next design. Taking all the tricks I learned from putting this one together really fast I’m spending lots of time on the next one. It’s done up in browns and I’m hoping you’ll like it as much as I do. I expect to debut it sometime next week.

I really like how your site looks….I think it’s great that you were able to learn to do the designs on your own….I look forward to seeing what you do next….I’ve been reading your blog for awhile and enjoy it very much. I don’t have one of my own but have been thinking about it. glad to see I might be able to do this as well and have it look great just as yours does.

    Have a great one! :)

Thank you. Usually something of this nature would intimidate me because I don’t feel I have a ‘design eye’ but the software offers so many options that it reallys hard to go wrong.

I remember when I first started blogging I didn’t know anything about was I was doing but this community is so supportive and willing to answer any questions that arise. You only need to ask. I’ve made so many new friends on this journey.

  • I like!

I am looking for a 3 column template.

BTW, everything distils into reading is my new blog. Please do visit it, subscribe to it or follow it! Do help me spread the word.

    • Marcia says:

The software I use builds single, two and three columns themes. Personally I only use two so that’s how I build mine. I can always go back and modify the theme if I find I want one or three columns. You do have to have a self-hosted site to use the software. If you are using a free blog from Wordpress then you can’t import the themes.

  • Nicole says:

Your theme looks great Marcia! I have been struggling to find one that I really love, so this is a great idea, and one that I would like to look into a bit more.

    • Marcia says:

When I was finding that I couldn’t find exacatly what I wanted I went to ‘designing’ my own. Now with limited talent at least it more of what I’m looking for. I other ideas rolling around in my head I just need to find the time to play with the software.

  • Darlene says:

It looks great Marcia! So clean and crisp! Geez, I sure wish I had your talent.

    • Marcia says:

Thanks. I give a lot of the credit to the software. It’s point and click with no real ‘talent’ required. Almost every little thing has a multitude of options so one little change leads to another.

  • Kathy says:

    I love it!

    • Marcia says:

Thank you. I have one more built already and waiting for it’s debut. I’m working on #3 right now. I’m spending more time designing themes than I am with my nose in a book. It’s a new obsession for me.

  • Marcia, this looks wonderful! Congratulations!

    • Marcia says:

Thank you. Maybe I’ll go a new theme every month so check back in June.

  • Jennifer says:

    I love your new design! =}

  • Melody says:

I like the new look, Marcia! Congrats! :)

  • Alyce says:

Wow! It looks great! I wish that I had something like that to help me with my blogger design.

    • Marcia says:

If you check out the site they say a Blogger version is on the way but I don’t know how soon it might be.

  • I like this. As there is no one to help me, I have to do everything by myself. I explore the net mainly.

  • Melanie says:

Great job. The theme is beautiful.

  • Bonnie says:

Gorgeous! I am impressed at your design talent Marcia! I cant wait to see what you do next.Do you have a Wordpress account that you’ve paid for? That’s something to think about doing so I have more options.

    • Marcia says:

The quick answer is yes but you don’t really ‘pay’ WP. You’re paying a hosting site. Keep an eye on your email for a longer answer.

  • Stephanie says:

    Very spiffy!

  • Laza says:

Me likey! Very cool that you made it yourself. Blues and browns would be awesome.

  • Marcia says:

Thank you everyone for your kind words about my new look. It was fun to do and I could literally spend hours playing with the software. My reading time is already taking a hit. Look #2 is almost done. I’m thinking it will debut June 1st. I’m currently working on look #3.

  • Hi Marcia, I like your new look. I have been looking in to re-designing my site.

    Congratulations.
But it looks too difficult. I have a account on blogger.I am not computer savvy at all.
Would you share your experiences how to get started. I am sure many of us would love to know.I was going to have someone re-design my blog but the cost was a bit too much. And I was afraid it would not be what I wanted. I have wanted to change to word press because they have alot more options. When I first started blogging it looked to hard.
Can you tell me what design software you needed and if it was difficult.
    Congratulations again
