Reading Journal: Trace Evidence and Someone To Watch Over Me
Trace Evidence
Elizabeth Becka
Hyperion, 2007
352 pages
Police procedural/suspense
My impression: I enjoy police procedural/suspense stories and I thought this one was right up there. It kept me turning pages until the end. I didn’t make the connection as to who the killer was until it was revealed in the plot line. I was first introduced to this author through another book of hers, Takeover which she wrote under the name Lisa Black. I received Takeover through the Early Reviewers group at Librarything. While I liked both books I thought this one was the better of the two. She has a second book, Unknown Means featuring the same lead character, Forensic scientist Evelyn James of the Cleveland Medical Examiner’s office, which I intend to read.
Someone To Watch Over Me
Lisa Kleypas
Avon, 1999
384 pages
Historical, Romance, Bodice Ripper
My impression: This is guilty pleasure reading for me. I had just finished one of the best books I’ve read this year, The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship, and the Redemptive Power of Music by Steve Lopez (which I highly recommend) and I needed something that was going to provide an escape ~ it served it’s purpose.
July Book Blowout Wrap It Up
Since I’ve worked so hard this month why not write a wrap up post?
1. Did you discover a new author?
Yes. I actually discovered 10 new authors. I’m always trying to expand my reading horizons and several of my challenge books were ARCs/AREs so that was a lot of exposure to new authors.
2. Where was the most unusual place you found yourself reading?
I really only read in 2 places ~ work and home. Because our annual vacation doesn’t come around until December you won’t find me reading in any usual places during the summer months.
3. Did you read more than usual?
My average is 10-12 books a month so a bit more but nothing excessive.
4. Did you give up anything in order to read more?
Work. I slacked a bit this month to meet my reading goals. Wonder if my boss knows my blog address? Good thing I’m thinking about switching.
5. If you won the Amazon voucher what would you spend it on?
So I feel kinda silly answering this question because I have a pretty good idea most of us will answer the same way – books. Specifically Kindle books. The Lace Reader would be my first selection.
6. Would you like to see a 2009 Book Blowout?

Historical Fiction Reading Challenge
Now that I’ve finished the July Book Blowout Challenge I’m moving on to my next challenge. I’ve picked a historical fiction challenge this time around. I’ve decided to do these things one at a time instead of a whole bunch at one time.
The Historical Fiction Reading Challenge is hosted by Annie at Reading, Writing and Ranting. You can check out the challenge details here.
I’m starting with I, Mona Lisa by Jeanne Kalogridis. It’s also my f2f book club selection for August so it’s a perfect choice.

July Book Blowout complete
Well July is coming to an end and so is the July Book Blowout Challenge. I exceeded my goal of 13 books by a book and 1/2 = 14-1/2 books! I also DNF’d two books this months. Overall a very rewarding challenge.

Wiersema/Reading Group Gold 4 ~ Scene of the Grime by Suzanne Price 5 ~ Plane Insanity by Elliott Hester 6 ~ The Innocent by Posie Graeme-Evans 7 ~ The Warriors, Book 1: Into The Wild by Erin Hunter 8 ~ What Angels Fear: A Sebastian St. Cyr mystery by C.S. Harris 9 ~ Tribute by Nora Roberts 10 ~The Map Thief by Heather Terrell/Authors on the Web DNF ~ Soul by Tobsha Learner DNF ~ Narrow Dog to Carcassonne by Terry Darlington 11 ~ The First Patient by Michael Palmer 12 ~ Trace Evidence by Elizabeth Becka 13 ~ The Soloist by Steve Lopez 14 ~ Someone To Watch Over Me by Lisa KleypasA fork in the road, a new path
So, now I’ve come to a fork in the road, possibly a new path to follow. I originally set up a wordpress account to be able to comment on fellow book bloggers blogs. Then I got to thinking to that wordpress has some features I like that blogger doesn’t but I’ve invested literally hours of precious reading time setting up the original Printed Page. Now what am I to do ~ switch, use both, stick with what I know? Can anyone say dilemma?
Now this site will never be as fancy as my blogger site but maybe I don’t want it to be. And, it is a work in progress. All the little details that went into the blogger site need to some how be transferred or translated to here. I know there is a feature to convert blogs but I’m thinking for now maybe I’ll tinker on my own.
I had thought about using this as a place to blog just about vitrual/online book groups I’m starting to become involved in because of another wordpress template I found and love but decided I wanted a bit more if I was going to spend time here. The one I really love doesn’t allow for pages and that is a big selling point for me with wordpress.
You’ll also notice that I posted my July Book Blowout wrap up post here.
